Jug'o'Punch - Where are we now
SKU: Jug

Shite'n'Onions Review: Hard Folk is probably the best description I can come up for Stoke-on-Trent, England's Jug'o'punch. Part Pogues, part Dubliners with a touch of American bluegrass and blues (lots of harmonicas here). Like The Pogues before 'em, Jug'o'Punch mix the romance of Irish dreams and yearning with the gritty reality of life in the UK Those like me who loved "Fiver on the horses" and "Cold" from the recent EP will love this full length. Bio: For the uninitiated, Staffordshire based Indie Folk outfit jugopunch are 5 piece collective of renegade musicians who, after several tours of duty on the front line of the NW live music scene, were recruited in the winter of 1998 by front man Andrew Hannibal Tranter in a fresh campaign to bring about social reform/decay via the ancient medium of traditional song. In between the previous paragraph and the next, 7 years of relentless gigging in pubs, clubs, theatres, hotels, community centres, marquees, gazebos, car parks and barn yards took place throughout the UK; five extended play CDs were released, several English pounds were raised for charity and a legion of adoring fans accumulated. Riding high on the success of their latest CD "where are we now?", and a series of high profile summer festival appearances including a weekend at the Skagen festival, Denmark, not to mention support slots with the likes of Davey Arthur and the Fureys, The Levellers, Peatbog Faeries and The Family Mahone, jugopunch continue their mission on the battlefield known as Folk Music.
